One time during a travel to Africa, I met a vagabond who told me that he thought scars were so beautiful. I was surprised, because I had always felt a bit sorry myself, for people who were marked by scars. He changed my mind. He said scars told stories and this was the fact that made it beautiful for him. That fact of been marked, either by a piercing, a tattoo or even a scar by accident or medical treatment, has since than captured my fascination. Faces in general is one of my main subjects to photograph.
NGO´s and Entrepeneurs
“Never stop being enthusiastic”.
Patti Smith expressed it from the stage, in her own poetic way. It is a priceless wisdom to see what people can create and make when the build the bricks to reach a common goal. Entrepreneurs, who put their security and comfort life in second place to follow their dreams fascinates me strongly. Photography assignments for NGOs and Entrepreneurs are among my favorites.
While I was living for a year in South Africa, Cape Town, doing the final year of my bachelor degree in Development Studies, I became friend with Meagan. Our lives, both past and present, were completely different. Getting to know her beyond her beauty, I realised how strong this woman was. Sometimes I was wondering what we had in common.
Then she said it one day, “We are travellers”.
There must be so many feelings at the big day, an explosion of feelings and emotions. I have documented three weddings so far.
I like to call it documented, because I use natural light and follow the rhythm of the wedding. Only at the weddingshoot will I give some guidelines for the best wedding portrait, except from that it’s all yours day, I will only be there so you can keep the memories longer.
